More than 75 years running, English National Ballet’s Nutcracker is London’s ultimate holiday ritual. From the first flourish of violins to the final snowfall, over 100 dancers, musicians and stage crew conjure a Victorian Christmas Eve awash with twinkling candles and sugar-dust dreams. Wayne Eagling’s choreography keeps Sir Peter Wright’s classic storytelling while injecting fleet new footwork—Clara vaults through double assemblés, and the Mouse King commands a tumbling corps of acrobats.
Highlights That Keep Families Returning
• Live symphony: the ENB Philharmonic performs Tchaikovsky’s evergreen score in full symphonic glory;
• Jaw-dropping design: 3,000 hand-cut snowflakes, 200 metres of silk ribbon and a 12-metre Christmas tree that grows before your eyes;
• Show-stopping Act II: Spanish chocolate clicks castanets, Russian trepak whirls into mid-air splits, and the Sugar Plum pas de deux ends in a 32-fouetté firework.
What’s New for 2025
New sets by Tony-winner Ralph Koltai bathe the Kingdom of Sweets in holographic Aurora Borealis; principal ballerina Emma Hawes debuts as Clara opposite rising star Aitor Arrieta. A fresh recorded prologue, narrated by Dame Judi Dench, guides young audiences through the story.
