The Maarjamäe History Center, part of the Estonian History Museum complex on the coastal road northeast of the centre, extends that narrative further, placing Estonia's turbulent modern past within a broader European frame. These are not comfortable visits, but they are serious ones, and they distinguish Tallinn from cities where history is primarily decorative.
