Your guide to Dallas

Your guide to Dallas tickets

Few American cities carry as much symbolic weight as Dallas. The skyline alone tells a story: the geodesic dome of Reunion Tower rising above the Trinity River corridor, the glass towers of Uptown catching the flat Texas light, and the older brick warehouses of Deep Ellum holding their ground against decades of redevelopment. Dallas is a city that has always been in the business of reinvention, yet it remains stubbornly itself, shaped by oil money, cattle history, and a civic ambition that never quite settled for modest.

The geography here is sprawling in the way that only Sunbelt cities can be, but the areas that reward a first visit are more concentrated than the scale suggests. Downtown anchors everything, with the Arts District stretching along Flora Street in what is now one of the largest contiguous urban arts districts in the country. The Nasher Sculpture Center, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Winspear Opera House all sit within walking distance of one another, which still surprises visitors who arrive expecting a city indifferent to culture. Uptown and the Knox-Henderson corridor offer a denser, more walkable texture, while Deep Ellum, east of downtown, remains the city's most credible claim to a neighbourhood with genuine grit, its music venues and murals occupying the same blocks where blues and jazz took root in the early twentieth century.
