Cagliari sits at the southern tip of Sardinia, looking out across the Gulf of Angels with a confidence that comes from several thousand years of continuous habitation. Below Castello, the Stampace and Marina quarters carry a different energy, with narrow streets opening unexpectedly onto Baroque churches and small squares where the pace of daily life asserts itself without any particular effort to attract attention.
