Family Colosseum Tours
Kid-friendly tours with storytelling guides, gladiator school and hands-on activities
All Colosseum Family
Overview
Family Colosseum tours are designed specifically for visitors with children. Guides use storytelling techniques, props and interactive activities to bring gladiatorial Rome to life for younger audiences. Instead of a lecture on Roman architecture, children hear about what it was like to be a gladiator, how animals were brought from Africa, and what the crowd noise sounded like when 50,000 people cheered.
Gladiator school experiences take place near the Colosseum and teach children (and adults) basic gladiator techniques with replica wooden swords and shields. Some family combos pair a Colosseum guided tour with a gladiator school session in the same morning. All family tours include skip-the-line entry and cover the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.
FAQ
Quick answers on booking, access and what to expect.
Most family tours are designed for children aged 5 to 12. Younger children (3 to 4) may enjoy the experience but may not follow the full tour. Gladiator school is best for ages 6 and up. Teenagers often prefer the standard guided tour.
A hands-on experience where a costumed instructor teaches basic gladiator techniques using replica wooden swords and shields. Sessions last 1 to 2 hours and take place in a venue near the Colosseum. Children and adults both participate.
Small folding strollers are allowed, but the Colosseum has stairs, uneven surfaces and narrow passages that make strollers difficult to use. Baby carriers are strongly recommended instead.
