Sinaia earned its nickname, the Pearl of the Carpathians, long before tourism brochures existed. It sits within forested grounds above the town and remains one of the most elaborately decorated royal residences in Central Europe, its interiors filled with carved wood, Murano glass, and a weapons collection that spans several centuries. Just a short walk from Peleș stands Pelișor, the smaller castle built for Crown Prince Ferdinand and his wife Marie at the turn of the twentieth century. Where Peleș impresses through scale and ornament, Pelișor is more intimate, its Art Nouveau interiors reflecting Queen Marie's personal aesthetic and her deep interest in Byzantine motifs.
