Sinaia earned its nickname, the Pearl of the Carpathians, long before tourism brochures existed. Just a short walk from Peleș stands Pelișor, the smaller castle built for Crown Prince Ferdinand and his wife Marie at the turn of the twentieth century. Where Peleș impresses through scale and ornament, Pelișor is more intimate, its Art Nouveau interiors reflecting Queen Marie's personal aesthetic and her deep interest in Byzantine motifs.
