Below the castle, the streets of the old town move between medieval arcades and Renaissance courtyards, with the covered walkways along Via Manci offering shelter in any season. Trento is compact enough to cover on foot, and the scale of it means that the transition from Roman archaeological remains to contemporary civic life happens within a few hundred metres.
