Choose your experience
Visit the Borobudur Temple, the world’s largest Buddhist monument built by the Sailendra Dynasty between 780 and 840 AD. The Sailendra family ruled the region during this period. The structure was made for Buddhist worship and pilgrimage, guiding people toward enlightenment based on Buddha’s teachings. British troops rediscovered the temple in 1814 under Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles and fully cleared it in 1835. Borobudur's Mandala-style design symbolizes the universe in Buddhist cosmology. The square structure has four entrances and a circular center. It is divided into two realms: the worldly realm with three outer zones, and the realm of Nirvana at the center.
