The name Stonewall carries weight in the Texas Hill Country, sitting quietly along the Pedernales River in Gillespie County, roughly an hour's drive west of Austin. Johnson National Historical Park, and the ranch house, the reconstructed birthplace cabin, and the family cemetery where Johnson is buried all sit within reach of one another across a stretch of river bottomland that feels genuinely unchanged from the era he inhabited it.
