The name Stonewall carries weight in the Texas Hill Country, sitting quietly along the Pedernales River in Gillespie County, roughly an hour's drive west of Austin. This is ranching country, where live oaks spread wide across limestone ridges and the air in summer carries the particular dry heat of the Edwards Plateau.
