The Münster, a sandstone Gothic cathedral that took roughly three hundred years to complete, rises above the old town's rooftops and remains the clearest expression of how long people have been investing in this place. The Schlossberg, the wooded hill immediately east of the centre, offers a straightforward walk to panoramic views over the terracotta rooftops and, on clear days, across to the Vosges mountains in France.
