Few American cities carry their history as visibly as Santa Fe. The architecture throughout the historic core is governed by a strict adobe style, meaning the city presents an unusual visual coherence: earth-toned walls, flat roofs, and rounded corners that soften the light rather than reflect it. Canyon Road, a narrow street climbing east from the centre, is lined with galleries and studios, and it remains one of the most concentrated art markets in the country.
