High in the Calabrian Apennines, Spezzano della Sila sits within the Sila plateau, one of the largest upland forests in Europe and a landscape that operates on a scale quite different from the sun-baked coastline that most visitors associate with the far south of Italy. The experience that draws most visitors to this corner of Calabria is an encounter with the Giants of Sila, a grove of Laricio pines that are among the oldest and tallest trees in Italy.
