Yaiza 가이드
Yaiza sits at the southern end of Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, and carries a reputation as one of the most handsome villages on the island. Its low whitewashed houses, immaculate streets, and carefully tended bougainvillea have earned it repeated recognition as one of Spain's most beautiful villages, a distinction that feels entirely earned when you walk its quiet lanes in the early morning before the day's heat settles in. The Atlantic light here is particular, sharp and clean, bouncing off volcanic stone and lime-washed walls in a way that photographers and painters have long sought out.
The landscape around Yaiza is shaped by one of the most dramatic geological events in recorded European history. Between 1730 and 1736, a series of volcanic eruptions transformed the island's interior, burying dozens of villages and creating the vast lava fields known as the Malpais de la Corona and, more immediately to the north of Yaiza, the extraordinary Timanfaya National Park. That park, with its otherworldly terrain of craters and solidified lava flows, defines the character of this part of Lanzarote as much as anything built by human hands. Yaiza itself survived the eruptions and became a quiet agricultural settlement on the edge of a landscape that still feels geologically alive.
