Start your island adventure

Begin your journey early in Rainbow Beach at Freedom Hostel, where you'll meet with your group and guide. After a safety briefing and a place to store your luggage, board the morning ferry for K'gari. Once on the island, you'll receive further driving guidance and hit the sand tracks behind the wheel of a 4WD.

Day 1 – 75 Mile Beach & Lake McKenzie

• Drive along the renowned 75 Mile Beach, the island's sand highway, passing wide ocean vistas and possibly glimpsing resident wildlife such as dingoes

• Take your first adventure stop at Lake McKenzie, an idyllic freshwater lake known for its pure silica sand and clear waters—perfect for picnicking, swimming or unwinding on the shore

• End the day at your comfortable campsite, gather for a communal dinner and get settled for a night of ocean sounds

Day 2 – Streams, Shipwrecks & Champagne Pools

• Begin with breakfast before floating along Eli Creek, a fast-running freshwater stream that offers a cool, invigorating swim

• Visit the historic Maheno Shipwreck and learn about its remarkable journey from luxury liner to beach landmark

• Climb to Indian Head for panoramic views and the chance to spot marine life from this striking lookout

• Enjoy a dip in the bubbling Champagne Pools—natural rock formations where surf splashes create a unique swimming experience

Day 3 – Sand Dunes & Lake Wabby

• Hike through towering sand dunes for a memorable arrival at Lake Wabby, a deep emerald lake tucked against the forest and sand

• After lunch, drive back to the ferry point for a smooth return trip to Rainbow Beach, typically arriving late afternoon

Camping comforts

During your adventure, stay at a secure campsite right on the coast, with facilities that include hot showers, a spacious camp kitchen and communal dining area. Tents and camping gear are all supplied, so you can relax after a day exploring the island's highlights.

Meals and inclusions
