波爾圖克里斯托 指南
Porto Cristo sits on Mallorca's eastern coastline, tucked into a narrow inlet where the Serra de Llevant mountains slope down to meet the Mediterranean. It is one of the island's oldest fishing settlements, and that origin still shapes the place: the harbour is small and genuinely working, the streets above it are modest rather than showy, and the pace is noticeably quieter than the resort strips to the south and west. For visitors arriving from Palma or the busier coastal towns, the contrast is immediate.
What draws most people here, however, lies underground. The Coves del Drac, or Caves of Drach, are among the most celebrated natural formations in the whole of Spain. Stretching for more than a kilometre beneath the limestone plateau, the cave system contains one of the largest underground lakes in the world, Lake Martel, named after the French geographer Edouard Alfred Martel who explored and mapped the caves in 1896. The experience of descending into that darkness, watching the stalactites and stalagmites reflected in still water, and then hearing a small ensemble perform classical music from illuminated boats on the lake, is genuinely unlike anything available above ground. The Mallorca: Caves of Drach and Porto Cristo half-day trip by bus connects the caves to the town itself, giving visitors the context of the harbour and the surrounding landscape alongside the underground spectacle.
