Madison Square Garden: The World's Most Famous Arena

The Madison Square Garden is one of New York's premier venues for live entertainment. Located at 4 Pennsylvania Plaza, New York, NY 10001, this arena has a capacity of 20,000 and has been a fixture of the city's cultural landscape since 1968.

History of Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden opened on February 11, 1968, making it the fourth venue to bear the name in New York City history. Designed by Charles Luckman Associates, the arena was built on the site of the demolished Pennsylvania Station, a decision that remains one of the most controversial in New York architectural history.

The current circular structure sits atop Penn Station and has hosted some of the most memorable events in entertainment and sports history. From Muhammad Ali's fights to concerts by Elvis Presley, John Lennon, and Bruce Springsteen, MSG has been the stage for countless legendary performances. The venue has undergone several major renovations, most recently a billion-dollar transformation completed in 2013 that modernized every aspect of the fan experience while preserving the arena's well-known status.

Known simply as 'The Garden' to New Yorkers, the venue is home to the New York Knicks (NBA) and New York Rangers (NHL). Its concert history reads like a hall of fame roster, with residencies by Billy Joel, Elton John, and Phish drawing sellout crowds year after year.

The Chase Bridges, suspended above the arena floor, offer a rare perspective found nowhere else in live entertainment. For concerts, floor seating configurations vary by artist and production.
