Relive the life of the ancient city of Pompeii with a personal guide
Step back in time to explore one of the world's most remarkable archaeological sites on this guided tour of Pompeii. This ancient Roman city was perfectly preserved when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, creating a unique window into daily life during the Roman Empire. Your expert guide will lead you through the cobblestone streets where Romans once walked, revealing the stories behind the Forum, Basilica, and elaborate patrician homes dating back to 80 BC.
You'll discover remarkably preserved mosaics and frescoes that have survived nearly 2,000 years thanks to the volcanic ash. Walk through ancient eateries called thermopolia, explore temples dedicated to Jupiter and Apollo, and see the intricate artwork that showcases Roman wealth and culture. The small group size ensures a personalised experience with plenty of opportunities for questions and photographs.
The complete experience lasts approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes, including transport time. You'll meet at the designated point in Sorrento, and it's recommended to arrive at least 15 minutes before departure. ID may be required to access the archaeological site.
Wear comfortable walking shoes as the ancient cobblestone surfaces can be uneven in places. Bring sunscreen and water since much of Pompeii is outdoors with limited shade. Children can join the tour but must be accompanied by an adult. Please note the site is not wheelchair accessible due to the uneven terrain.
If you're planning to explore more of the region, consider combining your visit with a Mount Vesuvius volcano tour to see the mountain that preserved this ancient city, or discover more of southern Italy with an Amalfi Coast day trip from Sorrento.
