Few Spanish provincial capitals carry as concentrated a sense of place as Teruel. Perched on a high plateau in the interior of Aragon, at roughly a thousand metres above sea level, it is a city that rewards the traveller willing to leave the coastal corridors behind. The cathedral's associated Museo de Arte Sacro holds a coherent collection of sacred objects that contextualise the building's long history, and a guided tour of both spaces gives a considerably richer account of the Mudéjar period than the architecture alone can convey.
