Torrevieja sits on the southern Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante, a stretch of Spanish Mediterranean coastline where the light arrives hard and bright for most of the year and the sea holds its warmth well into autumn. Inland from the waterfront, the grid of streets around the Calle Ramón Gallud and the Plaza de la Constitución forms the commercial and social core, busy with locals in the early evening in a way that reminds visitors this is a functioning Spanish town rather than a purpose-built resort.
