Few British cities wear their reinvention as visibly as Glasgow. The Victorian mercantile wealth that built the Merchant City's sandstone warehouses and the City Chambers on George Square is still legible in the architecture, yet the city has layered so much on top of it that reading Glasgow requires time and a willingness to move between its very different registers.
