Sinun oppaasi kohteeseen Tarifa
Tarifa occupies the southernmost tip of continental Europe, a narrow wedge of land where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean meet in a visible collision of currents. The Strait of Gibraltar is only fourteen kilometres wide at this point, and on clear days the Rif Mountains of Morocco appear close enough to touch. That proximity to Africa gives Tarifa a quality unlike anywhere else on the Iberian Peninsula: the light is sharper, the wind is almost constant, and the sense of standing at a genuine geographical threshold is impossible to ignore.
The town itself is compact and largely Moorish in its bones. The medina-like old quarter, enclosed by walls that date to the tenth century, is a tangle of whitewashed lanes, wrought-iron balconies, and small squares shaded by orange trees. The Castillo de Guzmán el Bueno anchors the southern edge of the old town and has watched over the strait since the thirteenth century. Beyond the walls, the beach at Los Lances stretches northward for kilometres, a broad arc of pale sand backed by low dunes and pine scrub, reliably swept by the Levante or the Poniente depending on the season.
