Perched on a limestone ridge in the Cilento, the hilltop village of Trentinara sits at roughly 700 metres above sea level, its medieval lanes and pale stone houses looking out across a panorama that stretches, on clear days, all the way to the Tyrrhenian coast. This is the Campania that lies beyond the postcard circuit of the Amalfi Coast, a quieter and considerably older landscape shaped by Greek colonists, Lombard lords, and centuries of transhumance across the Parco Nazionale del Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni, a UNESCO-recognised territory of exceptional ecological and archaeological depth.

The village itself is compact enough to walk end to end in twenty minutes, yet it rewards a slower pace. The belvedere at the southern edge of the historic centre offers one of the most unobstructed views in the entire Cilento, with the valley floor far below and the Alburni massif rising to the east. The church of Sant'Anna and the remnants of the medieval fortifications give a sense of the settlement's long occupation of this ridge, which was strategic precisely because it was difficult to reach and impossible to overlook.
