Casablanca occupies a stretch of Atlantic coastline that has shaped its character as thoroughly as any architectural movement or colonial chapter. Older neighbourhoods such as the Habous quarter, sometimes called the New Medina, were themselves a colonial-era construction, built in the 1930s to a planned interpretation of traditional Moroccan urban form.
