Palma de Mallorca sits on the southern coast of its island with a confidence that comes from more than two thousand years of continuous habitation. Further west, the neighbourhood of Santa Catalina has evolved into the city's most animated food district, its former market building now surrounded by restaurants that draw as much on the island's own produce as on broader Balearic and Spanish traditions. Palma is a city that functions well at a deliberate pace.
