Operation Mincemeat is the Olivier Award-winning British musical comedy now playing at the Golden Theatre on Broadway, with tickets on sale through 14 March 2027. It tells the true story of a wildly unlikely Second World War deception with a cast of five playing dozens of characters, and it runs about 2 hours 35 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission. This guide covers the story, the running time, who it suits and where to sit at the Golden.

What is Operation Mincemeat about?
Operation Mincemeat is about the real 1943 British intelligence plan to fool Nazi Germany about the Allied invasion of Sicily. A small team obtained the body of Glyndwr Michael, dressed him as a fictional Royal Marines officer, Major William Martin, and planted him with fake documents for the enemy to find. The musical turns that true story into a fast, very funny show, with a young Ian Fleming among the characters. It was written by the comedy company SpitLip (David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoë Roberts) and is directed by Robert Hastie.
You do not need to know the history before you go. The show explains everything as it goes, and it is not connected to the Netflix film about the same events.
Why is Operation Mincemeat so popular?
Operation Mincemeat is popular because it combines a story that sounds made up with a small cast doing remarkable work. It won the 2024 Olivier Award for Best New Musical in London, and on Broadway Jak Malone won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Entertainment Weekly ranked it the number one Broadway show of 2025.

The Golden has three seating areas. The orchestra runs from row A to row S, with a center section and two side sections.
